YOUR FAMILY MAP MARCH 2012 - MAY 2012

A class that helps you create a personal vision and adaptable plan for your family.

Do you feel like your family is very busy but you’re not always sure doing what?

Did you have a clearer sense of what you wanted before you had children?

Are you feeling like something in your parenting needs to be a bit more grounded?

I designed Your Family Map with all of these things in mind.  It’s easy to get caught up in the highs and lows and busyness of everyday life, and it can be grounding and refreshing to step back and look at your big picture.  How wonderful would it be to make the time and look at your family and your journey?  To see where you are going and envision your family’s future?

This class will take you through 10 areas of life and give you time to think and talk about your vision for your family. We'll map out each topic, looking at daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly milestones that will help keep us focused on our big picture. We will of course, leave room for your child(ren)'s eventual input and natural change that occurs, and you'll finish the class with a clearer sense of your role in making life what you want.

During our first class we’ll introduce ourselves and look at an overview of modern family life.  Through the next 11 classes we’ll examine our own goals around family traditions, religion, food, global understanding, charity and service, and more in the context of you (alone or with your partner), your children, and your hopes for the future.

  1. Introductions; Overview of Modern Family Life; Class Procedures
  2. Family Harmony, Fun, Parenting and Pace of Life, Family Traditions
  3. Extended Family Relationships and Family Friendships
  4. Physical Life: Exercise, Sports, Play, Body Connection and Awareness, Self Care
  5. Spiritual and/or Religious Life
  6. Creative Life: The Arts and More
  7. Food & Culinary Life: Cooking and Eating in the Home and Out
  8. Nature & Connection to the Natural World
  9. Community Connection; Charity and Service
  10. Global Understanding, Appreciation & Travel
  11. Technology and its Place in Our Lives and Homes.
  12. Final Overview

At the end of the class you’ll have a clear plan/map that aligns your vision and personal goals with your family’s goals, with room left for growth as your kids mature and have fresh ideas to bring to the mix.

With other interested parents, via teleclass, you’ll explore issues and options surrounding things that make up our daily lives.  The class will include:

12 Class Calls-- these calls present the course material, with some time for q&a at the end.
10 SHARE Calls-- this is your time to share ideas and ask questions with the entire group.
Guided reflections that will help determine your personal preferences, beliefs and goals around each topic.
The “Family Map”, a physical plan (an easy to use spreadsheet) with daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly ideas that will help fulfill your vision.
Appropriate original and adapted support materials.
Personal Email support—you can always email me between sessions to ask a specific question.
Admission to the group message board for class members only.  On this board you can post thoughts, ask questions, share experiences, and get feedback from me and other group members.

  • Family gatherings: preparing for holidays and group get togethers.

  • What does it mean to be smart?  How do you truly support children as learners?  What are your goals at a parent-teacher conference?
  • Setting up for successful playdates.
  • "How was school today?" doesn't always work:  Better ways to talk with your child about their day.
  • Everyday talking to your child about cuts and colds.
  • Learning how and when to role play with your child.
  • Talking with your children about death.
  • Talking with children about ill grandparents, relatives and friends and even pets.
