Children want and need to be seen, heard, and understood.  Even if we don’t agree with their opinions, we can understand where they are coming from.  We need to stay connected.

This truly is a journey—and we are setting up a relationship that needs to last and be successful for years—we have to live daily with our children for up to 18 years and then we hope to have a good relationship with them so they continue to call, visit, and come back home when they want.  It sounds like a long way away—we are laying the groundwork now.
