most important: expecting
We all go through a lot of preparation for this point, the arrival. The more we know, the better prepared we can be. You want to educate yourself so you can look back at this baby time and feel like you were empowered and able to make choices you can look back on and feel good about— and not make choices out of fear.
No one can really prepare you for what it is going to be like to give birth and have your baby—but we can give you enough information and places to get more information so you will be primed for your own experience.
No matter what, you are going to go through a life change—you can empower yourself and lead that change.
Preparing for birth is the first step. Preparing for your baby, the second. If you have a high risk or twin (or other set of multiples) pregnancy you should research a bit about premature birth and NICU units.
When you bring your baby home, you will be sleep deprived and nervous and scared and just want to feed your baby—you might not be able to make calm choices about nursing and looking for a lactation consultant. You need to do that before.
You need to know if you want to nurse—believe in it for all the good things it does— and work at making it successful—for it may be difficult.
The same reason you buy all the "stuff" before so you don’t have to shop with a baby is the same reason you should research things before and have certain numbers on hand
