Mindset, by Carol Dweck
When Mindset was published in paperback, the cover was changed to attract parents and teachers, not just academia.  The most important message in this book is that “smart” means working hard and taking chances.  “Smart” isn't fixed and set-- it's a "mindset". A way to approach life and learning.

The Homework Myth, by Alfie Kohn
For the most part, homework can be useless and create more stress in families than no homework.  There is some research that proves some homework can be helpful once a child reaches high school.  Alfie Kohn always goes a bit far, but aiming high is always better than the alternative.

The Schools Our Children Deserve: Moving Beyond Traditional Classrooms and "Tougher Standards", by Alfie Kohn
If you want to read more about educational philosophy.

Understanding By Design, by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTigue
This is one of the most famous books about curriculum design and assessment.  It will help you understand (I hope) where your child’s teachers are coming up with some of their ideas.  It will also help you talk with your child about what she is learning in school.

Beyond Bedtime Stories:  A Parents Guide to Promoting Reading, Writing, and Other Literacy Skills From Birth to 5, by V. Susan Bennett-Armistead , Nell Duke & Annie Moses
This book can help you understand how your child can be supported throughout the day as you interact with reading and storytelling.  There are helpful ways to talk with your child about reading.

Please note:  I do not have a relationship with any company to endorse books—any books mentioned are ones I have personal experience with and like for myself or my family.  If available, I have listed these books in my askyourfriendkira educating store where I do get a tiny portion of the sale price.
